Biography
Professor Mario Muto, MD (b. August 3, 1961) is an internationally recognized expert in
diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology. He has served as Chief of the Diagnostic and
Interventional Neuroradiology Unit at Cardarelli Hospital in Naples since 2003 and leads the
hospital’s Department of High Technology and Services. A graduate of the University of
Naples Federico II, with specialization in Radiology (Cagliari University), he has trained at
prestigious institutions including Johns Hopkins Hospital and Hôpital Sainte-Anne in Paris.
Professor Muto has held numerous academic positions, including appointments as Professor
of Radiology at the Second University of Naples and visiting professor roles at institutions
such as the University of Vienna. He is a prolific author and editor, contributing to numerous
textbooks and journals in the field, and has received multiple honorary memberships,
including from the American Society of Neuroradiology and the European Society of
Neuroradiology.
He has led and participated in various international research projects, holds a patent in
therapeutic delivery systems, and has played a key role in shaping the neuroradiology
discipline across Europe. Professor Muto also serves on several editorial and ethics
committees and continues to teach and mentor in advanced neuroradiology programs.
